Welcome to The Official Duke Jones Website. Home of Juke Records, recording artist, Duke Jones, Gulf Coast Blues and more; music, posters and booking info. I have mixed feelings about all this high technology, but a few years ago I jumped into the twenty first century with an old Apple computer. This is my website. I hope you dig it. I am just a guy out here trying to make it as a musician. I was born on the Gulf Coast, a child of the sixties. I took my first guitar lessons in the back of Jim Hollis' barber shop at the age of eleven and it was all down hill from there. I played trombone in the school band, sang in the choir, performed in the theater and did musicals. After I left school I went to New York City to make my way in the world. I kicked around for years and traveled the country. I played with bands in Austin, Houston, New York and California, appearing from time to time on the folk music scene in New York. I lived in Harlem, studied jazz and played the blues in the subways and the nightclubs around the city, eventually moving back to Texas with a woman. We found an old house in the inner city and started fixing it up. I put a band together and started playing around town until I was nearly killed in a motorcycle accident. The band split up, the woman left me and I ended up on my own again. I have played a lot of blues since then. I've been out on the scene in Houston and playing around town for the last couple of years at places like The Market Square Grill, King Biscuit, The Dark Horse Tavern, etc., etc. and I have attracted a small following by playing acoustic blues in the style of Lightnin' Hopkins. I perform a number of R&B hits and a few jazz standards. I like a variety of things. I have worked with other players, including members of The Free Radicals and the Leonard "Lowdown" Brown Band and my band The Rocket City Jukes is available when I'm able to round everyone up. I hope you enjoy the MP3's and the pictures. Tell your friends, come to my shows, send me e-mail. If you are a club owner or if you are interested in booking a date send an e-mail or call and leave a message. You can buy my Demo Tape/CD for about $7.00 plus postage and t-shirts, posters, and more songs are on the way. Thanks, |
